Recently a tenant came to me and advised she would have to break her lease and move out as she couldn't afford the rent anymore. Her adult family had all moved out and it was only herself and hubby left in the property.
Her charming husband had just finished chemo and as a family, they have had a rough two years.
The wife let me know they would be looking for a two bedroom unit for just the two of them which would suit their budget after living in a five bedroom, three living, two bathroom home for the last five years.
On discussing this situation with the property owner and making him aware of what was going on, he simply said to me.. "Karen, reduce the rent to the cost of a two bedroom unit to the end of their lease"
This meant reducing the rent $250.00 per week!
As you can imagine, the husband and wife were extremely humbled...
